Recents events, such as the border crisis in the Southwest and the Israeli/Hamas outbreak in the Middle East, have taken over the 24/7 new cycle. But lingering in the background, and being written about in many of the major papers and talked about on many news programs is the issue of income inequality, particularly as it relates to the U.S. economy.
I’ve been thinking about this topic for some time, specifically after the 99% movement a couple of years ago. Since my life is beginning to return to some level of normalcy, I thought I would begin to do some research on the topic and write about it. So here I start.
I do not come to this from one political or philosophical framework. I’m not sure I could have said that in prior years. I’m just going to lay out the issues, look at research, and try to filter out the rhetoric. It will be an impossible task, but I am going to give it my best shot.
Some of the topics I’ll be looking at include:
- What is income inequality? How is it defined and how should it be defined?
- Income inequality in the United States.
- Income inequality in global economy
- What causes income inequality and what can be done about it?
I haven’t completed all the research yet, so I’m not even sure where this will lead me. It will be a journey we travel together to consider the topic. I hope you stick around and express your thoughts. Hopefully we can have a good discussion.
